    The Basic Helix-Loop-Helix Transcription Factor Family in the Honey Bee, Apis mellifera

    The basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors play important roles in a wide range of developmental processes in higher organisms. bHLH family members have been identified in a dozen of organisms including fruit fly, mouse and human. In this study, we identified 51 bHLH sequences in silico in the honey bee, Apis mellifera L. (Hymenoptera: Apidae), genome. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that they belong to 38 bHLH families with 21, 11, 9, 1, 8 and 1 members in high-order groups A, B, C, D, E and F, respectively. Using phylogenetic analyses, all of the 51 bHLH sequences were assigned to their corresponding families. Genes that encode ASCb, NeuroD, Oligo, Delilah, MyoRb, Figa and Mad were not found in the honey bee genome. The present study provides useful background information for future studies using the honey bee as a model system for insect development

    Scenarios Designed for the Verification of Mobile IPv6 Enabling Technologies

    Conveying the innovations of an infrastructural based technology such as Mobile IPv6 is not easy. The identification of an application scenario can be a beneficial way to guide the development of Mobile IPv6 enabling technologies and to assist the real life deployment of Mobile IPv6. Well defined scenarios can also become an important part of the final system integration and test bed deployment. This paper will first describe additional functional components for Mobile IPv6, particularly the ones that have been successfully integrated, i.e. MIPv6 bootstrapping based on EAP (with and without MIPv6 DHCPv6 extensions and DNS/IKEv2), AAA for MIPv6 bootstrapping, and HA load sharing. We will then highlight a methodology used in identifying an application scenario chosen to demonstrate the operational mobility service. We will briefly review the state of the art in the domain and seventeen scenarios in the “Mobile and Wireless Systems and Platforms beyond 3G” area. We will then show the process of defining one specific demonstrable scenario, which adequately verifies the technical and business requirements for the deployment of a Mobile IPv6 service

    On the use of SHIM6 for Mobility Support in IMS Networks

    The future of network communications is moving towards deployment of an all-IP core network. This has given rise to many devices hitting the market equipped with multiple network interfaces. However, in order to really benefit from such a heterogeneous network environment, applications must experience minimum disruption as they roam from one network to another, which requires seamless mobility support. Although, some mobility proposals have emerged (Mobile IPv6, and its extensions), none of them give satisfactory performance in terms of handover between different networks. In addition, they require infrastructural changes to the network and give poor performance in case of a failure. In this paper, we propose a mechanism to support mobility through a multi homing SHIM6 layer. The results show that our proposed mechanism outperforms Route Optimized Mobile IPv6

    Variations in Soil Bacterial Composition and Diversity in Newly Formed Coastal Wetlands

    Coastal ecosystems experience some of the most active land–ocean interactions in the world, and they are characterized by high primary productivity and biological diversity in the sediment. Given the roles of microorganisms in soil biogeochemical cycling and their multifaceted influence on soil ecosystems, it is critical to understand the variations and drivers of soil microbial communities across coastal ecosystems. Here, we studied soil bacterial community dynamics at different sites (from seawater to freshwater) in the Yellow River Delta, China. Bacterial community composition and diversity over four seasons were analyzed through 16S rRNA genes. Notably, the bacterial community near the ocean had the lowest alpha-diversity when compared with the other sites. No significant differences in bacterial communities among seasons were found, indicating that seasonal variation in temperature had little influence on bacterial community in the newly formed wetlands in the Yellow River Delta. Bacterial community structure changed substantially along the salinity gradient, revealing a clear ecological replacement along the gradual transformation gradient from freshwater to seawater environment. Redundancy analysis revealed that salinity was the main driver of variations in bacterial community structure and explained 17.5% of the variability. Our study provides a better understanding of spatiotemporally determined bacterial community dynamics in coastal ecosystems

    For problems of override trip in short-circuit fault and fault line selection in single-phase earth fault of coal mine power system, a protection technology of coal mine power based on GOOSE network with information sharing was proposed. The technology realizes anti-override trip with blocking signal and line selection in single-phase earth protection with zero sequence full current vector information based on GOOSE network. On the basis of existing gigabit industrial Ethernet of coal mine and high-speed real-time communication mechanism of GOOSE, fault information can be shared between protection devices, which can realize anti-override trip effectively and improve accuracy of fault line selection in single-phase earth fault

    Celebrity CEOs and corporate investment: A psychological contract perspective

    Drawing on the psychological contract theory, we examine how the celebrity status of chief executive officers (CEO) influences corporate investment behavior. Using a sample of Chinese listed companies from 2002 to 2019, we find that celebrity CEOs increase corporate investment levels, leading to lower investment efficiency. In addition, they employ more impression management tactics to signal their superior managerial ability, and dodge possible rejections of their investment decisions by having fewer board meetings. Furthermore, since the perceived psychological contract is dynamic, we provide evidence that the association between the celebrity CEO and corporate investment is more pronounced when a firm faces environmental uncertainty, and pressures from intensive industry competition and peers' performance. Our study contributes to corporate finance literature and results indicate that CEOs with celebrity status are pressured to maintain a psychological contract, which in turn, reduce the efficiency of corporate resource allocation

    CEOs’ experience of the Great Chinese Famine and accounting conservatism

    This study investigates how a CEO's early‐life experience of the Great Chinese Famine affects corporate accounting conservatism. We find that companies whose CEOs had experienced famines in early life adopted more conservative accounting policies. This famine experience effect is more pronounced in high uncertainty environments proxied by non‐SOEs, politician turnovers and the adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Additional tests indicate that CEOs with famine experience tend to support conservative accounting practices for contingencies and accelerate the recognition of asset impairments in negative events. Overall, consistent with imprinting theory, our results highlight the role of early‐life traumatic experiences in shaping CEOs’ risk preferences and financial reporting policies
